My buddy Shawn Knight, President of the Pacific Northwest DeLorean Club, was recently doing some research through the PNDC‘s past newsletters, and ran across my name… from September 1997. That’s when I joined the PNDC as one of the few non-owner members at the time. I often talk about attending a few Club events back then, and how much I was hoping to / looking forward to buying a DeLorean. It took me over 20 years, but I finally achieved that goal.
I was only a member of the Club a couple years, but made a connection with the founder and long-time President, Arnie Brandon. Over the following 20 years, I kept in touch with Arnie to talk about DeLorean stuff, get advice, and more recently, to get advice about specific cars I was looking at buying, once I had saved enough money. I’ll always be thankful to Arnie, and I wish I’d become an owner sooner, to further develop our connection before he passed away.
The big image is page 2 of the September 1997 newsletter, under the “Welcome to our New Members” where it says “Dave Tavres, of Redmond, WA – Is starting his hunt for the right DeLorean.” What a great find awesome memory.
At the same time, I had to include my very first-ever “selfie” at a PNDC Tech Day, and also the very first time I ever got to sit in a DeLorean.
(Also note the “International DeLorean Directory” blurb… maybe that stuck in my head for 20 years until I created the DeLorean Directory!)
